Canada, for its tiny population and diet of back bacon, has an incredibly rich history of great songwriters. If we were to pick three songwriters to take to a songwriter deathmatch, heck, we’d put Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen up against anybody.
To add to this, please consider Kathleen Edwards. Now with four terrific albums under her belt, she has established herself as the best of the newest wave of Canuck Cantoras (tip of the hat to NAFTA).
Comparing favorably to the likes of Whisketown and Gillian Welch, she has shared the stage with Congress fave Richard Buckner as well as Bob Dylan and even –gasp– The Rolling Stones. Clearly we are not alone in appreciating her considerable talents.
Opening this evening will be Megan Hickey’s excellent Last Town Chorus.
A great early week concert to kick off the summer…tickets are limited — we suggest buying early. And often!
